Through the medicine of the drum we enter back into the present moment in a natural, joyful way, no matter how inexperienced one may be. Being part of a drumming ensemble creates a sense of connectedness with oneself and others, without the need for verbal language.
Steve Sundram has been teaching weekly classes and leading community drumming on the island of Maui for the past four years. For over twenty five years he has studied with some of the finest drummers from Africa and contemporary latin percussionists from South America.
Steve creates a playful atmosphere for all to feel welcomed and be free to explore the joy of rhythm. He is joined by his partner Mayra, who adds her South American flair playing Djun Djun's to create a rhythmic base to support the Drum circle.
"A drum circle is more than just a musical gathering. It is a place where everyone can have a taste of the magic of uniting as a group to create something bigger. It is always delightful to discover how transformative drumming can be, once the beat takes over, the individuals disappear and we are left with music!"

Steve Sundram is an internationally renowned artist. His dolphin and mermaid series, inspired by the marine mythology of early civilizations, was selected for display at Tokyos prestigious Seibu Gallery, as well as being used on a television documentary hosted by Horace Dobbs, the worlds leading dolphin researcher.
"Steve's deep love and enthusiasm for drumming was brought to Kahua Haiku's adolescents and adults summer youth leadership program, on Maui Hawaii.
He is articulate, warm and masterful at his ability to weave together a group. He takes each person through a process that together creates a harmonious whole. It was a truly transformative experience. After each session the students went away joyous, grounded and filled with light."
